“Look Away” by Sara Thomas

You Can Choose to Look Away
a poem, not about you, surely

You can choose to look away
Guaranteed, the easier way
But, the innocents, you might say?
Not you, you can choose to look away.

You can choose to tune it out
Go with the benefit of the doubt
Feel secure with intact clout
Oh, you can choose to tune it out.

You can choose that comfy chair
At their table, over there
Might as well get you a share
Who wouldn’t choose the comfy chair?

You can choose to medicate
Suppress those feelings that you hate
Chalk it up to just your fate
Yes, you can choose to medicate.

But, when your eyes fall upon the transition
Those out here hustling for a shared vision
And your fear of change creeps through the fray?
Do us all a favor, and keep looking away.
