“Moonsun” by Dorcas Maupin

Long ago, the Moon and Sun Gods despised each other and wanted to rule over the sky. These gods were slowly getting more and more agitated about who should rule the sky, so eventually they became so mad at each other that they started to fight. The humans and animals became scared because as the gods were fighting, the earth was getting destroyed in the process. The battle between these gods was very violent and no human or animal could stop them.

During the battle of the gods, the humans and animals were losing their food sources of plants and water. The plants on earth were melting and turning to ashes from the sun’s powers. The water was evaporating in some places on earth, while other places were frozen solid. If the humans and animals didn’t work together to stop the gods, the creatures would die from dehydration, starvation, turning to ice, melting, or burning, or being fried or turn to ashes. Sooner or later the humans and animals would have to come up with a plan or they would die.

The humans and animals found a way to stop the gods from fighting, and they found out by watching the gods fight each other. They would wait for a solar eclipse because during the solar eclipse the gods would be powerless against the humans and animals. The humans and animals invented a slingshot out of what was left of natural resources, like the plants and trees. Both the humans and animals started setting up the slingshot. When the slingshot was ready, they needed a of group volunteers to catch both of the god’s orbs. Later they found two volunteers; each one would catch an orb. The first person got on the slingshot while everyone prepared to aim it toward gods. On the count of three everyone let go of the slingshot. Next, they each caught an orb; one of them was frozen and the other was burning. Later, the human and animal returned to normal. When the human was frozen the moon was creating a guardian baby for the moon orb. The other volunteer that was burning was also creating a guardian for the sun orb. As years went by, the King of the Humans and Animals created a law that half of the earth belongs to the humans while other half belong to the animals. They lived happily ever after in peace.
