When Maria Falvey isn’t contributing to Iḷisaġvik College’s Aglaun, she takes on a unique and quirky view, creating literary snapshots of life (quick shots of otherwise fleeting moments) in the Arctic, and beyond.  Read more on her website, www.mariafalvey.net.


JILLIAN FELDER (Author of “Anxiety”)


CAITLIN FORSTER (Author of “Bering Sea Cribbage”)

Caitlin is a biologist who grew up on Whidbey Island in Washington State. She didn’t realize that beaches could have sand and sun and so the rocky shores of Washington and Alaska are where she ties her lines. As a reader, she has always enjoyed connecting with the words of an author across time and space. She was excited to try her hand at being a producer, not just a consumer of those stories. This is her first publication.


ALEX FREEMAN (Author of “In a Fox’s Skin”)

Alex Freeman resides in Bellingham Washington, where he attends school at Western Washington University. He plans on receiving his associate’s from Iḷisaġvik this year. Alex enjoys writing about space exploration and discovery. His goals are to return to Barrow with his wife Alexandria, and to hone his writing skills. His interests include sailing, learning, and travel.


DORIA LAMBRECHT (Creator of “One Love”)


SCOTT MORTENSEN (Author of “Bowhead Whale Anatomy, Physiology, and Other Fun Facts”)

Scott Mortensen, a collegiate rower and film studies student at UCSD left a production career in Hollywood to pursue documentary filmmaking and adventure philanthropy. As an award-winning creative director, writer and producer he has worked on projects covering human trafficking in Thailand, social enterprise in Honduras & Russia, disaster relief in Haiti, clean water initiatives in Africa & cancer research in the United States. Associated expeditions include summiting and shooting from the top of Mt. Everest, guiding a team of humanitarians to the top of Mt. Kilimanjaro, riding a bicycle across the United States, and rowing a boat across the Arctic.

With a Master’s degree centered on social entrepreneurship, he has expanded his brand of adventure philanthropy by collaborating with companies such as Nike, ABC, Sundance Channel, Volcom & Warner Bros. among others.

In his free time he pursues professional rescue operations, explores big oceans and climbs tall mountains.


AUSTIN PARKHILL (Artist of “Jerica” and “Rangifer tarandus COLOSSUS”)

Austin Parkhill is a professional artist living in Barrow, Alaska. Parkhill’s artwork has been shown nationally from Denver to New York City, including exhibition in the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery in Washington D.C.. In Barrow, Parkhill’s painting Samuel is on permanent exhibition at Samuel Simmonds Memorial Hospital. In addition to his artwork, Parkhill works and teaches art courses for Iḷisaġvik College.


GREG SHRIVER (Author of “Under the Acacia Tree”; Photographer of “Dawn’s Early Light” and “Kitchen Window Visitor”)

Greg has taught English composition classes while at Northern Arizona University. He is currently the ABE/GED/ESL Instructor at Iḷisaġvik College for the past ten years. Teaching art as an adjunct landscape and seascape instructor for the college keeps him inspired to re-create the beauty he sees around him. Greg has taught overseas in the Middle East, and loves to travel.

Recently inspired by the encouragement of a published author, and the acceptance of his work in Aglaun, he is currently putting together a collection of his poems that span his lifetime of travels and adventures into book form.
